My Favorite Verse
Ashley Watts
One of my favorite verses is found in Jeremiah, it comes right after a verse that is often quoted, but the second half of this promise is actually what has stuck deep in my heart this past year.
Jeremiah 29:11 AMP (the verse often quoted states):
11 For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
I love this verse, too, don’t get me wrong. Most of my life has been spent wanting to know I’ll be okay or that God has good plans for me. But honestly, I’ve missed most of what God offers when I look to him as a “means” to a good or safe life. I’ve missed out on the best part…HIM!
The following two verses are now my favorite verses:
12 Then you will call on Me and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear [your voice] and I will listen to you. 13 Then [with a deep longing] you will seek Me and require Me [as a vital necessity] and [you will] find Me when you search for Me with all your heart.
These last two verses have become a way of life. This relationship God offers us is HIMSELF, and he promises that when we seek him with all our hearts, we find him. The beautiful thing is he hears us, and we can from hear him, too.
It’s been in this space of seeking him, that I have truly seen the love, care, attention, and relationship he has always wanted with me. God is personal and as we seek him, we learn more of who HE is, and who he created us to be.
That’s why this is my favorite verse…it’s a promise of close access and relationship to HIM. And that my friend has made all the difference in my life.
